Large scale information architecture
Maersk
Maersk.com caters for a huge and diverse global audience (3 million users per month). Everyone from investors and jobseekers to potential new customers, and existing customers who want to navigate the complicated world of international shipping.
The ‘Website’ is not a single platform. It is a complex web of over a dozen applications. It offers everything from an enterprise-level CMS that delivers multilingual sales and marketing content through to ultra-bespoke systems that provide customers with the tools they need to book, manage, track and pay for their shipments.
At the time of this project, Maersk was undergoing a major transformation – moving from a global ocean shipping company to a full-service, end-to-end logistics provider - and the website had to play its part in changing people’s perceptions.
You can imagine that creating a single navigation to meet the needs of all these people, house all these features, and easily explain the new proposition was no small task.
However, through a well-planned programme of stakeholder consultation, user research and interaction design we were able to deliver a robust and scalable approach to meet all major requirements.
The new navigation received positive user feedback throughout beta testing and after it was launched into the live environment in October 2020. The positive trends in usability have remained stable throughout the transition.
