Prototype testing for a beloved international theatre company

The Royal Shakespeare Company

Your Mum’s involvement helped us to really understand our What’s On section and to define the core functionality that has allowed us to present a very complex public offer in a way users can easily understand.
— John Benfield | RSC

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is a globally renowned theatre company, with plays and events running worldwide, on stage and into cinemas.

In June 2015, they asked us to test a prototype of their main consumer website. Could visitors navigate the site and select an event to suit them?

With the RSC team, we devised a test script to cover the breadth of content available. Test candidates were selected from a database of loyal customers as well as from a wider group of regular theatre goers.

Moderated interviews were run from our digital test lab in Leamington Spa. The transcripts from the sessions and a detailed report were presented and discussed with The RSC. We subsequently ran a follow up workshop with key stakeholders and helped re-work some of the prototype ideas with the RSC digital team to shape the new structure of the site.

Our work helped the RSC trial and refine ideas with customers prior to development, allowing them to launch their new site with the confidence that their online presence combines what their customers’ want with the breadth of events the RSC offers.
